Cycling for a good cause
Do you want to make the world a little better? Then you’ve come to the right place! Bine’s Bike Challenge is a successful charity cycle tour with which we improve the lives of many children in the SONNE project countries. This annual charity event has been taking place every summer for a different SONNE project for 5 years now, with growing participation. Following the impressive successes of previous bike challenges, this year we are focussing on a particularly urgent problem: Myanmar’s street children.
From 27 June to 31 July, it’s time again to collect kilometres and give the gift of education!
Take part, too, because every kilometre you cycle or sponsor helps finance the SONNE street children support centre in Yangon, where needy children receive access to education and healthcare. In this way, we give them a perspective for the future.
Get on your bikes – for street children
Sabine Braun, SONNE-International’s fundraising officer and initiator of this unique charity bike tour, was on site shortly after the first Challenge in 2019, when the support centre for street children was opened. A lot has happened since then: more and more children are finding their way there, more and more projects are being implemented and the centre is flourishing.
One of the centre’s main activities is providing day care for vulnerable children and young people from the slums who do not (yet) go to school – and without support would probably never see the inside of a school for the rest of their lives. Here they not only receive medical care and meals, but also informal lessons that prepare them for entry into a public school. In this way, the centre helps to break the vicious circle of ignorance and poverty.
Bine’s Bike Challenge offers individuals and companies the opportunity not only to take part in an enjoyable sporting event, but also to make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. As a rider or kilometre sponsor, you have the opportunity to collect kilometres to give hope, education and a better future to children in need.
